Abstract:
Plastic is the product most commonly disposed of inappropriately. Not only does plastic take centuries to disintegrate into the earth, but it secretes toxic chemicals in the process. The purpose of this experiment is to minimize the effects of the littering to promote a healthy ecosystem. The procedure of this experiment included creating an alternative plastic and comparing it to common plastic over a three month period. The results were the alternative plastic did not alter the soil negatively and disintegrated almost fully as opposed to the average plastic that remained almost entirely unaffected. In conclusion, the alternative plastic material is a possible substitute to conventional plastic as it is less expensive to produce and less harmful to the environment.
