Abstract:
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can cause posttraumatic epilepsy, currently 20% of all epilepsy cases are due to TBI. This research project studied the effects of TBI on PTE. The purpose of this project was to compare the risk of seizures after different severities of head injury. The first part of this project studied tissue damage at various impacts. This was done to see if we could cause different amounts of tissue by altering the depth of the injury. Overall, these results suggest that greater injury severity, using 1.2mm depth, had no effect on PTE. These results will help guide future studies on post-traumatic epilepsy and treatment of epilepsy.
