Abstract:
Although technology has advanced in the past years, we notice that there are still people with visually impaired that have dependencies for mobilization. While we were thinking about this matter a question came to our mind: Is it possible to improve the quality of life of people with visually impaired through technology? For this reason, the “Visus” project consists mainly in helping people with visual disabilities. The idea came up because it seems strange that in the twenty-first century the use of the cane is something that we often see. Based on this assessment, our objectives were, first create a device to replace the cane used by people with visual disabilities and secondly, to create an application for the device to be connected to the cellphone. This would allow them to receive alerts on possible obstacles on their way. The device was created using electrical components and it was connected to the cellphone by the application created by this science club. This project was based on the opinions of people with visual disabilities that were interviewed. We hope to improve the quality of life of people with visual disabilities in this century or at least encourage others to research, develop and improve what has been done by this science club.
