Abstract:
The United States automotive market is evolving to more fuel efficient fleets and alternative power-trains. This project analyzes the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a diesel and a gasoline vehicle by comparing the TCO. To determine the TCO, I researched three and five year cost estimates of depreciation, and fuel cost; then combined these estimates with three and five year cost for repairs, fees and taxes, insurance, and maintenance. These results confirm my hypothesis: diesel vehicles are more economical than gasoline.
