Abstract:
In today’s modern world a major concern is the sustainability of our fuel, but would a microbial fuel cell make a better fuel source, and what would make it produce more energy? This project takes a look into the effectiveness of microbial fuel cells with different things added into the benthic mud in order to see which was better sugar, vitamins, or nothing. In order to find what would work best a voltmeter was used, and a derivative of ohms law. My hypothesis was that vitamins would allow the microbes to oxidize easier which in turn would produce more energy. The experiment also showed that microbial fuel cell actually do produce electricity at very low levels not reaching a high output.
