Abstract:
Develop an application to encourage native tree species to be planted so native birds will return to San José, Costa Rica.
Forest App is based on an application that encourages native tree species to be planted to recover the natural habitat for the native species in the city of San José, Costa Rica. By using this application, users will be able to access information about native tree and bird species. Based on this information, users may plant native trees in the green zones that they are able to access. Otherwise, they may pay to hire the people in charge of Forest App to plant a tree for them. By planting these species, recovery is being promoted for the natural habitat of native bird species since it creates the conditions needed so native birds are able to live their life cycle.
For information related to the native tree species, we have the support of a botanist from the Natural History Department of the National Museum of Costa Rica, Alonso Quesada. For native birds, we have the support of a biologist who graduated from the National University, David Segura. The main bibliographic sources used to create the project included the Costa Rican ornithological research carried out by Julio Sánchez and the botanist Armando Estrada, especially the book “Trees and Bushes of Importance to the Birds in the Central Valley of Costa Rica.”
In conclusion, we believe that the Forest App has the faculties needed to achieve its objectives. The application encourages recovery of the native species habitat using detailed information, so users are able to plant and access the planting system with a button, which makes it possible for anybody to help the environment.
