Abstract:
Huge amount of fat, oil and grease (FOG) in the food waste enters the sewer system on daily basis and finally form “fatbergs” which can lead to significant economic loss and are costly to remove. It is important to avoid the release of the FOG into the sewer system. In this project, a convenient method has been established to prepare superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic mesh using low-cost materials. The mesh generated using this method demonstrated superior capability of separating cooking oil from water, showing great potential of application in our daily life to fight FOG issues and keep our water clean.
