Abstract:
Stroke is a neurological disease that is considered one of the leading causes of death, disability and hospitalization worldwide. The PhysioArm Project, then, brings together the technical courses in mechanics and electronics with the physiotherapy area, aiming to assist in the recovery process of motor sequelae caused by the stroke. The main objective of the work is to design a device to passively move and coordinate the post-stroke patients upper limbs, in order to serve as a physiotherapeutic resource. Initially, research was carried out on stroke and upper limbs, seeking to understand and acquire properties about these subjects. After this initial step, the 3D model of the device was designed in a CAD software based on the studies and attributes raised. Stepper motors controlled by an Arduino microcontroller were chosen to execute the device's movements. Finally, to control the execution of the exercises, an intuitive and agile mobile application was developed, designed to be used by the physical therapist professional. As a result, stress analyzes were performed using the same software, showing that the device is able to safely support the upper limb weight without major deformations. Tests have proven the mobile application functionality. This research signaled positively for a future prototype construction, as the projection was made with commercial components or parts that could be manufactured. This device has the potential to positively impact the recovery of the upper limbs of patients who have suffered a stroke, serving as another tool to be used in physical therapy sessions.
