Abstract:
It can be found that lichen are commonly used as bioindicators by scientists in order detect air pollution. This project was targeted at evaluating if lichens can be used as bioindicators just by looking at the different types of species. Further analysis was conducted comparing lichens found in site locations to lichens of known sensitivities. After collecting data from a total of 30 sites ranging up to a distance of up to 50 miles from Portland, Oregon it was concluded that there was a slight correlation between distance from city and lichen type.
