Abstract:
Currently, there is minimal research published on the use of Controlled Internal Drug Releases, CIDRs, and Progesterone Gonadotrophin 600, P.G. 600, and their effects on reproduction success of ewes. This project was designed to see how much P.G. 600 is needed to administered to have the best conception rate. It was hypothesized that the more P.G. 600 would produce more lambs and have the best conception rate. CIDRs were inserted into 44 ewes for 12 days and the total sample size was 66 head of sheep. While 22 ewes were left to come into estrus naturally without CIDRs. After the medicine was administered, the ewes were bred by rams naturally. The results showed that the control had the best conception rate followed by 2.5 cc and 5 cc of P.G. 600. These results will be highly beneficial to sheep producers and sheep researchers.
