Abstract:
According to the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, from March 15 to May 6, 2020, 919 incidents of gender violence were reported, most of them against women. Taking advantage of technology, we can promote women safety in cases such as victimizations, assaults, disappearances, and rapes. The development of the Safe Woman mobile application has begun, and it contributes by reducing the increase in cases, as well as by safeguarding security. The application works by sending alert messages to family members, sharing the live location of the possible victim, as well as sending alert messages through social media. To begin the development our mobile application, different phases took place. Phase 1 aimed at generating ideas. Phase 2 was based on design and programming, carrying out the graphic design and the interactions that the application will contain on Figma platform. Phase 3 focused on the features that the application will have such as the emergency button, alarm sound, and the alarm flashlight. When pressing the emergency button, a confirmation message of “Are you sure?” will be sent to confirm whether the emergency alert should be sent or not. Additionally, the Family Access feature is presented, where family members added as emergency contacts will have access to the user's location. Then in phase 4, we used the Figma Mirror app, to preview the static layouts and prototyping interactions. We are expected to continue programming to make this a comprehensive, novelty app that meets the needs of women by safeguarding their health and physical integrity.
