Abstract:
In the midst of a global pandemic, masks have become a controversial topic. For the past two years COVID-19 has been the leading headline and people have discussed the effectiveness of wearing a mask. To test the effectiveness of preventing aerosol droplets from penetrating the layers of masks, a masked mannequin head was prepared with a water bottle full of highlighter fluid. The experiment was conducted and the resulting escaped droplets were counted and compared to a control group. The data shows that wearing a mask does reduce the amount of aerosol droplets counted on the targeted area. During this pandemic people should wear a mask to help reduce the spread of aerosol droplets that carry the virus COVID-19.
