Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to show which oil is the best to use when making biodiesel. This procedure involved making biodiesel using olive oil, peanut oil, and canola oil. Each oil was mixed with methanol and sodium hydroxide and left to stand for three days. After the third day, each oil was separated and burned. Data was then collected to show the temperature of the oil and the amount of oil burned. The results of the data concluded that peanut oil is the best oil to use when making biodiesel because it burned the least amount of oil over a thirty minute period. In conclusion, this project shows that there are alternative sources of energy that can be used when compared to fossil fuels. In the future, biodiesel may be considered a viable energy source as our supply of non-renewable fuels becomes scarce.
